Backpack Program Food Bank of Eastern Michigan
Marlette Elementary School is honored to sponsor a backpack program for students who need a little extra food during weekends. Many Michigan families are effected by the high unemployment rate and rising cost of food which can result in children waking up on the weekends with little or no food. Such children frequently rely on the school lunch program during the week and struggle with hunger on the weekends. The backpack program helps children who are at risk of hunger by providing kid friendly breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks to take home on the weekends. A big thank you goes out to our community and individual sponsors for helping financially and physically pack the backpacks for our students. It is said that it takes a village to raise a child and the Marlette Community sure comes together to care for all. If you feel that your family would benefit from participating in our school backpack program please feel free to contact our school counselor Dana Down.
